Paris 2024: US Women target new record, set for 5th Olympic gold

The four-time Olympic champions are looking forward to getting the 5th Olympic gold.

The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) is determined to put their disappointing World Cup exit behind them as they kick off their Olympic campaign against Zambia on Thursday.

The four-time Olympic champions are eager to reclaim the gold medal and return to the summit of female football.

"This team is past that. We're excited. We're prepared," head coach Emma Hayes emphasised, dismissing questions about the team’s World Cup performance.

Hayes is Confident in the Team's Readiness

Despite a recent 0-0 draw against Costa Rica, Hayes expressed full confidence in her squad. The team, featuring eight returning Olympians, has undergone intensive preparation in Marseilles.

"The team is exactly where it needs to be at this stage and for us, it's just so, so important we continue to focus on that process."

Respect for Zambia

While Zambia may be ranked 64th, Hayes is wary of underestimating their opponents. "It isn't a shoo-in to get somewhere. It has to be earned," she cautioned.

The USWNT will be looking to start their Olympic journey on a strong note against Zambia, with the ultimate goal of reclaiming the gold medal.
