Premier League: Newcastle star faces 9 months out following knee surgery

Newcastle defender Sven Botman is facing up to nine months on the sidelines in a huge blow to manager Eddie Howe.

Botman, 24, will undergo a procedure to repair an anterior cruciate ligament next week after limping out of Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final loss at Manchester City.

The £32m signing from Lille in 2022, had only just returned from a knee injury sustained in September.

Sven Botman suffers year-ending injury

Newcastle released a statement saying

Sven Botman will undergo surgery next week after suffering a knee injury against Manchester City.

A scan has confirmed that he sustained an injury to his ACL and he is expected to return within 6-9 months.

"He is expected to return to action within six to nine months.

The Dutch centre-back initially sustained a knee injury in September 2023 and elected for a non-surgical rehabilitation plan – a decision which saw him return to action in December.
