Awoniyi has been out of action for 4 weeks, missing Nottingham Forest's last 7 games with an injury.
The 26-year-old is crucial to their hopes of staying up, and with the Tricky Tees just one point off the drop zone, the Nigerian's return to action could prove vital.
Awoniyi to return for Forest against Sheffield
Speaking ahead of their crunch tie against Sheffield United, Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed Awoniyi's imminent return.
“He joined the team today, he had good feelings, we still have to wait for tomorrow to see how it goes.
"And if he feels okay like he felt today, I think he can help definitely with his experience, he’s a goalscorer.
“We are aware and we know that he’s not at his top-level but a helpful player for us in these final moments.”
Awoniyi has scored 6 goals and contributed 3 assists in just 13 starts for Nottingham Forest this season.
