‘Promises are broken and trust is lost’ — Isak follows Lookman’s footsteps with powerful statement
Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak has issued a statement of intent to leave Newcastle, similar to Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, whose struggles with an Atalanta exit have been made public.
Both players have now gone public with frustrations over broken promises and strained relationships with their clubs as they seek for speedy resolutions to their transfer sagas.
Isak laments Newcastle treatment
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has released a powerful statement, making it clear that his relationship with the club is at breaking point.
The Swedish forward, recently named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season, thanked his teammates and fans for their support but explained why he chose not to attend the award ceremony.

“I'm proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.

In his message, Isak stressed that he had stayed quiet while others pushed misleading narratives, but the reality was that promises made to him had not been honoured.
He described the situation as untenable, declaring: “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”
Lookman’s similar battle with Atalanta
Isak’s words mirror those of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman, who recently handed in a transfer request to leave Atalanta.
Like the Swede, Lookman pointed to broken assurances from the club’s hierarchy as the cause of his discontent. Despite winning the Europa League and forging a strong bond with Atalanta supporters, he expressed frustration that the club had blocked his move despite previous agreements.
Inter Milan’s €42 million bid was turned down, with Atalanta holding out for closer to €50 million, intensifying the standoff.
Lookman, who has since removed Atalanta from his social media, admitted he no longer understood the management’s position. His absence from team activities further fuelled speculation that his exit could be imminent.
