After leading Boston 3-2 in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, Philadelphia lost back-to-back games. His last game in charge was a humiliating 112-88 loss to the 76ers in Game 7.
The Sixers finished the season as the East's No. 3 seed (54-28) behind Milwaukee and the C's. Philadelphia swept the Nets 4-0 in the first round of the playoffs. They went up 2-1 and 3-2, losing home court twice en route to an early vacation.
Possible replacements for Doc Rivers
As far as options to take over from Rivers, JJ Redick, a former 76er is being considered, as well as former Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer, Nick Nurse, Frank Vogel, Mike D'Antoni, Monty Williams and Sam Cassell are also all going to be considered for the vacancy.
Rivers had been with the Sixers since 2020 and despite some highs, his time in Philadelphia will not be remembered fondly.
