'Something has to change' — Luka Doncic on Mavericks future

Dallas Mavericks added Kyrie Irving to Luka Doncic in the hopes of making a deep playoff run and potentially going all the way, Instead, the result was a total lack of effort on the defensive end, horrible losses, blown leads, and ultimately, missing out on the playoffs. 

After the debacle of a season, the Mavs just had, the rumours started to circulate regarding their superstar's future. 

Doncic revealed his current state of mind during the end-of-season media availability on Sunday.

"I'm happy here," Doncic said. "So there's nothing to worry about."

Although Doncic hasn't requested a trade, he is well aware that the Mavs have to make some significant changes to their roster, and perhaps elsewhere as well. 

The 2022-23 season was a major disappointment for the team after reaching the Western Conference finals last season.

"Something's got to change, for sure," Doncic said.

"I mean, last year we went to Western Conference finals. We were having fun. I always talk about the chemistry we had. It was great. But something's got to change for sure."

It promises to be an intriguing off-season in Dallas as the organization tries to correct the mistakes made this season. 

As talented as Luka is and potentially Kyrie Irving, if they manage to retain his services, the team has a glaring lack of defending ability.

 The front office has an urgent need to address the lack of size and rim protection as well as wing defense. For now, the Dallas executives can relax, Luka is staying.
