Just a few weeks ago, Osayi-Samuel found himself on the outskirts of the Super Eagles squad, watching from the sidelines as his compatriots soared to victory against Sao Tome and Principe.

But instead of letting the disappointment consume him, he channeled it into a dazzling performance for his Turkish club, Fenerbahce, and sent a resounding message to Super Eagles selectors.

Yet, to the surprise of many, he was left out of the squad for the last game of the AFCONQ2023 against the Falcons and True Parrots.

Osayi-Samuel has been one of the heroes of Nigeria’s journey to AFCON 2023. His brilliance on the field helped the Super Eagles secure back-to-back victories, including a crucial penalty that led to Moses Simon’s match-winning goal in Guinea-Bissau away.

Even though his heroics were undeniable, it seemed like Peseiro was determined to embrace change, opting for a fresh defensive lineup against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo.

Nigeria hardly missed the Fenerbahce fullback following a thumping 6-0 win against the Parrots, with Tyronne Ebuehi and Ola Aina sharing the right-back spot.

While he picked up a yellow card, his first of the season in three matches, the Nigerian ended the encounter with the most dribbles completed (6) and won the most duels (10).

Osayi, who has one goal to his name this season, shone brightly indeed as he also completed 90% of his passes, created one chance, made one key pass, and seven recoveries.

He also won the one aerial duel he attempted and made two interceptions and two clearances.

With the Super Eagles gearing up for a showdown against Saudi Arabia next month, in an international friendly, Osayi-Samuel is making a compelling case for a swift return to the national team.

The prospect of seeing the defender don the Super Eagles jersey again in the game against the Falcons slated for Portugal is looking Bright.
