Tapsoba: Bayer Leverkusen confirm Burkina Faso superstar to go under the knife
Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen have suffered a major blow after star defender Edmond Tapsoba has been ruled out due to an injury.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Leverkusen confirmed the injury through their social media account on Wednesday morning.
Leverkusen lose Tapsoba
Die Werkself have taken control of the Bundesliga this season with the Burkina Faso defender one of the club’s standout performers alongside Nigeria’s Victor Boniface.
However, in what would be a major blow in the bid to compete on all fronts, the club has now confirmed that Tapsoba will miss the next two matches due to a hand problem that needs surgery.
“Eddy will be out for our next two games. He has to undergo surgery due to his hand injury,” the club stated in a post on their official account on X.com, formerly Twitter.
Following the statement, the 24-year-old will miss Leverkusen’s game against Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday before sitting out of the clash against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.
Tapsoba has featured in all matches this season for Leverkusen, with the Burkina Faso man an impressive presence at the back.
The in-demand African defender, who has been nominated for the CAF Player of the Year award is very highly rated in Europe.
Tapsoba has completed 92% of his passes, 80% of his dribbles, and made 29 clearances this season in the Bundesliga.
The Burkina Faso international has also made six interceptions and won 82% of his tackles in Xavi Alonso’s high-flying Leverkusen.
