Terem Moffi moves closer to Super Eagles legends Utaka and Ikpeba on Ligue 1 all-time scorers list
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi is rapidly closing in on Nigerian legends John Utaka and Victor Ikpeba on the Ligue 1 all-time top scorers' chart.
The 26-year-old forward for OGC Nice further solidified his rise among Nigeria’s premier marksmen in France with a crucial goal over the weekend.
Moffi ended a 98-day goal drought on Saturday, scoring the final goal in Nice’s convincing 3-1 victory against fellow Nigerian and Super Eagles teammate Gabriel Osho’s Auxerre.
Coming off the bench, Moffi made an immediate impact by finding the net just four minutes after entering the game in the 76th minute.
This marked Moffi’s first goal of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season and the 53rd of his career in France’s top flight, moving him tantalisingly close to joining the ranks of Nigeria’s most prolific scorers in the league.
He is now just two goals shy of Victor Ikpeba’s total of 55 and six goals behind John Utaka, the highest-scoring Nigerian in Ligue 1 history with 59 goals.
While Utaka scored his goals in 239 matches and Ikpeba in 170, Moffi has reached his current tally in just 140 games, showing his efficiency and consistency at a young age according to Transfer Market.
Named in Nigeria coach Eric Chelle’s recent 31-man provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, Moffi’s ongoing form could see him surpass these Super Eagles greats this season, provided he remains fit and continues his scoring exploits.
As Moffi continues to shine in Ligue 1, Nigerian football fans watch eagerly as he edges closer to a historic milestone, potentially rewriting the record books in French football.
