For much of the transfer window, the Dutch international had been heavily linked with a big-money move to Stamford Bridge, with reports even suggesting he was desperate to get the deal done.

It was widely believed that Simons was keen on a move to London, with some outlets reporting he missed parts of pre-season training in an attempt to push through a transfer from RB Leipzig.

However, a formal offer from Chelsea never materialized, as they instead prioritized a bid for Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho, leaving the door open for Spurs.

Speaking to Tottenham's official website, Simons confirmed his delight with the move and clarified the reasons behind his decision.“I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going."

He further elaborated on the meeting with his new manager, Frank, which he said was the final convincing factor.

“First of all, the project, I think it suits me. The second thing, I think the most important thing for me, is the coach.

"I spoke to him, he showed me a presentation that really impacted me, and that was the final decision for me. The right coach, the right peopl,e and I really believe that we will achieve really good things here.”
