Transfer News: Bayern plan Nico Williams hijack from Barcelona with new salary offer
According to reports, Bayern Munich have not given up on Nico Williams and have made one more effort to hijack him before he joins Barcelona.
Bayern want Nico; Nico wants Barcelona
After losing out on Florian Wirtz, the Bavarians made a concerted effort to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club. They had one problem, however: like Wirtz, Williams preferred to join another club.
The Basque winger had his heart set on joining Barcelona and has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Blaugrana on a smaller salary than the Bavarians were offering.
Still, Bayern Munich are not giving up, and according to Sky Germany, they have sent a new offer to the Spaniard on improved terms, with their current annual salary offer around €12 million net.
Bayern want to exploit Barcelona's inactivity
While Barcelona have a significantly improved financial status than a few seasons ago, when they risked going bust, they are far from being robust.
Hence, they attempted to negotiate with Athletic Club, proposing to pay a higher transfer fee than €58 million but in instalments. The Basque side rejected, demanding the full fee upfront.

Barcelona sources explain that the Blaugrana opted to wait till July, when the new financial year in football begins, to trigger the release clause and are planning on activating it later this week. Bayern Munich are hoping they can exploit this window to convince Williams.
