‘Very Good’- Maresca lauds key Chelsea performer as Blues climb to top four

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has hailed the performance of Trevoh Chalobah after the defender impressed in the Blues' 3-1 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. 

Chalobah, who was recalled from his loan spell at Crystal Palace last week, made his first appearance of the season for the Blues and produced a strong display at centre-back.

Maresca was full of praise for the Academy graduate, highlighting his defensive attributes and expressing his confidence in the youngster's ability to contribute to the team. 

Chalobah's return provides a timely boost for Chelsea, who have been short of options in defence due to injuries.

“Absolutely [it is good to have him back],” said Maresca. “He was very good and I have said already that the reason he is back is because we are sure he is going to help us and tonight he showed exactly what he is capable of doing.”

“Firstly, he is a strong defender. He is quick, he can defend in behind, he can defend forward, he is aggressive, but we already knew that, which is the reason we called him back.”

Goals from Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke helped Chelsea to success over Wolves, who equalised through Matt Doherty before halftime, ending the Blues’ five-match winless Premier League run to rise into the top four. 

Maresca’s men next face Manchester City on Saturday at the Etihad, with Pep Guardiola’s fifth-placed side two points behind the London club.
