Leverkusen are not looking to let go of that grip at the top of the table after another convincing and dominant victory in the Bundesliga.
Die Werkself ensured they would stay at the top at Christmas thanks to an inspirational display from their Nigerian contributor-in-chief, Boniface.
The 22-year-old was the architect again when he fired Leverkusen ahead after just 14 minutes with a sensational strike from outside the box.
Twisting and realigning his markers’ body shape, the Nigerian star unleashed an excellent right-footed strike to put them ahead at the break.
In the second half, German-born Ghanaian Jeremie Frimpong doubled Leverkusen’s advantage just six minutes after the restart.
Six minutes later, it was that man, Boniface, who was at the centre of another Leverkusen move, causing havoc with his dribbling and passing ability to cut open the visitors to set up Florian Wirtz.
The 20-year-old made no mistakes from close range as he lopped Trapp to double Leverkusen’s advantage.
Boniface, who was subbed off with 18 minutes left to play, has now scored nine goals and assisted seven more in 15 matches this season for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
