Fulham coach Marco Silva has revealed the reason for substituting Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi during the game against Leicester City.

Iwobi has made 22 Premier League appearances for Fulham this season, recording seven goals and three assists.

He continued to start for Fulham against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday as they claimed a 2-0 victory.

However, he was subbed off at halftime and replaced by Adama Traore, who scored the second goal of the game.

Silva speaks on Iwobi’s substitution

Silva has clarified after their victory that Iwobi was substituted out at halftime because he was having trouble with a knock.

According to West London Sport, “Iwobi was not substituted because of his performance. He had a difficult 24 hours before the game. 

“In the morning, we assessed him, and he was okay to play. But there were doubts if he would have been able to play the full game. At half-time, he was not feeling so well, and we decided to change him.”

There was controversy surrounding the Nigerian midfielder's substitution at halftime despite having a respectable first half.

Next week, Fulham will play Manchester United at Craven Cottage. Iwobi now has six days to recuperate from his knock and play for the Cottagers again.

It is doubtful that the Super Eagles player will be out for an extended period because of his strong injury record.
