'We need to get back to that' - Hansi Flick reveals what his team needs to win the title again
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is preparing his squad for the resumption of the Spanish championship. On Sunday evening, the team will host Valencia at their training ground.
The German coach is reportedly frustrated by Lamine Yamal's injury, among other sidelined players. The team owes its fans a better performance after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano before the break.
What Flick said
Speaking in his press conference, as reported by Sportal, Flick said, "I've said it many times – Gavi is the heart of this team. His attitude on the pitch – he gives everything and does it for the club. I was afraid of what might happen in training after the severe injury he suffered; I had that fear.
"But I would say the only thing he needs to do is work hard and not overexert himself. He needs to return, get back into shape. We need him to be confident about his knee and his body."
De Jong and Marc Bernal: "Frenkie will not be available for tomorrow. Marc will not start but will be on the bench, and the next step in his recovery process is precisely that – to be available. I want to see him on the pitch and playing more."
Still speaking, he said, "Ego kills success" – you don't like making such statements? "For me, there are things that happen on the pitch, in the dressing room, and these are things I need to resolve. Ultimately, for me, it's important that when we play, everyone focuses on the good of the team.
"Everyone knows what they need to do, and if they make a mistake, they can correct it. That's the difference between good and excellent players. That's what I want to see in my team – everyone knowing what they need to do.
"If you think you only gave 50% today, that's not enough. The fans deserve 100% from every player. Last season, that brought us the titles, and we need to get back on that path."
