‘We’re all in this together’ — Dessers begs Rangers fans for understanding
Cyriel Dessers has urged Rangers supporters to stand by the players and new head coach Russell Martin despite the club’s disappointing start to the Premiership season.
With back-to-back 1-1 draws against Motherwell and Dundee sparking frustration and boos at Ibrox, the striker insists unity between fans, players, and staff is vital if the team is to recover its form.
Call for unity after turbulent league start
He pointed to last week’s 3-0 Champions League qualifying win over Viktoria Plzen as proof of what the team can achieve when the atmosphere at Ibrox is electric. “We’re all in this together,” Dessers said, adding, “The team, the club, the fans, and we need each other.
‘It maybe sounds weird but we need the fans to give us, maybe not the patience or the time, but to help us when we give a difficult pass or we try to dribble or we try a shot. To encourage that and appreciate that, because we do it with a goal [in mind].
Dessers also called on his teammates to show more courage in possession, urging them to play with aggression from the start rather than only in late-game situations.
Tragedy at Ibrox overshadows weekend fixture
The match against Dundee was further overshadowed by the death of a 70-year-old supporter, who fell ill during the game and later passed away in hospital.
Rangers released a statement expressing their devastation, offering condolences and support to the man’s family.
Police Scotland confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances. The sombre news has cast a shadow over an already challenging period for the club, which now faces the dual task of improving on the pitch while rallying together as a community off it.
