What about NPFL? - Mauritanian league set to join Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, and Zambia to use VAR

The Mauritanian Football Federation (FFRIM) is set to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in their top football division, the Super D1, starting in the 2024-2025 season.

With the introduction of VAR in Mauritania's top league for the 2024/2025 season, they will join four other African nations Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, and Zambia.

The decision according to FFRIM President Ahmed Yahya aims at enhancing the quality and fairness of the league.

The federation has invited FIFA's VAR expert team to Mauritania to conduct training sessions for match officials. Top referees like Aziz Bouh and Dahane Beida are participating in the training, which includes both morning and evening sessions.

Furthermore, to accommodate VAR technology, Mauritania is working on upgrading its stadiums to meet the required standards.

Football in Mauritania has been on the rise, with notable achievements such as a 1-0 victory over Algeria in the 2023 AFCON and Nouadhibou FC's participation in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Premier Football League remain hopeful of securing a stadium that can use VAR as the new season kicks off on August 31st.
