Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has given his seal of approval to manager Mikel Arteta's decision to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
Gallas believes the 22-year-old Italian defender would be a valuable addition to the Gunners' squad.
Gallas hails Calafiori signing for Arsenal
Gallas revealed that he received a glowing endorsement of Calafiori's abilities from a friend who played in Italy for several years.
"My friend played in Italy for several years and watches Serie A every week – he played for Inter Milan and Lazio, he was a great player, but I'm not going to say who – and he told me that Riccardo Calafiori is really good," Gallas said in an interview with Gambling Zone.
Gallas highlighted Calafiori's versatility and quality, stating:
"He's young. He has good quality, and he can play as a centre-back or as a left-back. I think he would be a good signing for Arsenal because the club doesn't have a left-back at the moment. There are doubts about that position."
Calafiori is expected to start at either left-back or alongside William Saliba in the heart of defence for the Gunners.
