Ekong was the voice for the Super Eagles as they encountered several challenges during the international break.

Ekong led the Super Eagles' for their first leg 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

The skipper featured for 90 minutes and was key for Austin Eguavoen's side picking up three points.

He then led them to travel for the return leg in Libya where they would go through an ordeal at the airport.

When the Nigerian Super Eagles arrived for their play against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya on matchday four, they found themselves in an unwelcoming environment.

Before the return qualifying match in Benina, Libyan officials delivered on their warning to treat the Super Eagles and the Nigerian entourage badly.

The aircraft that was meant to transport the Nigerian team to Benghazi was rerouted to a different location, two hours drive away.

For several hours, the players and their representatives were detained in the reception hall of Al Abaq Airport and were not permitted to exit.

The Super Eagles were able to board a plane to return to Kano, Nigeria after a few social media pictures went viral with players complaining.

Ekong and family

Ekong has now returned home as discovered on his social media accounts.

He posted a photo with his wife, daughter, and son at their place.

Ekong is now expected to return to action when Al Kholood takes on Al Fateh in a Saudi Arabia pro league fixture on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
