The Spanish city has been a backdrop to two of his monumental records - the 10km world record of 26:38 in 2019 and the striking 10,000m record of 26:11.00 in 2020.
Ugandan long distance running sensation Joshua Cheptegeig is determined to make a statement as he stands on the cusp of a new journey in his already brilliant career.
Cheptegei looks forward to his debut in the marathon, and he remains dauntless in the face of the challenge.
The world record holder in the 5,000m and 10,000m categories is confident that his experience on the track will come in good stead as he aims to conquer the Valencia marathon on December 3.
Speaking to Xinhua earlier this week, the 27-year-old expressed his anticipation and preparations for the forthcoming Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso.
“I know it will not be easy going for my first competition in marathon,” Cheptegei remarked.
“But I have been running on the track for 10 years now and have a lot of experience at international level,” he added.
The city of Valencia holds a special place in Cheptegei's heart.

Cheptegei's forays into longer races include commendable performances in two half marathons, with a personal best of 59:21 at the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships in 2020.
Moreover, in the lead-up to his marathon debut, Cheptegei showcased his prowess with a 12:41.61 finish in the 5,000m in Lausanne.
He also finished fourth at the Diamond League in Florence, and took bronze at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst earlier this year.
Reflecting on his future plans and how this marathon fits into his grand scheme, Cheptegei mentioned, “For next year, my focus will be on the track at the Paris Olympic Games.”
“But hopefully, my marathon debut will be a good experience and then I can decide after the Olympic Games what my next steps will be.”
Last year's Valencia Marathon saw breathtaking performances with Kelvin Kiptum and Amane Beriso setting course records.
