Uganda's youthful long distance star Jacob Kiplimo emphatically defended the Senior Men's World Cross Country Championships (10km) in a tight race in Belgrade, Serbia on Saturday.

He beat Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi and Kenyan Benson Kiplangat, who ran 28:12 and 28:14, to finish second and third, respectively.

And, according to World Athletics, Kiplimo's gold attracted USD 30,000, which translates to approximately Shs 116 million.

Aregawi and Kiplangat, who followed pocketed Shs 56 million (USD 14, 000) and Shs 38 million (USD 10,000), respectively.

Meanwhile, 2019 champion Joshua Cheptegei, who finished sixth, smiled home with Shs 11.6 million (USD. 3,000).

Team Uganda, which finished third on the overall charts bagged Shs 44 million (USD 11,000).

It should also be noted that Kiplimo's victory made it three successive gold medals in the senior men's race at the event for Uganda, with Joshua Cheptegei scooping the other in 2019.
