Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo will be among the world’s finest athletes assembled at the Wanda Diamond League meeting at Herculis EBS Monaco.

The Wanda Diamond League comprises 14 of the most prestigious events in global track and field.

Athletes compete for points at the 13 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene on 16th-17th September.

The 2023 Wanda Diamond League meeting, in Monaco, is slated for July 21.

The 10,000m Olympic and World bronze medallist has confirmed that he will take part in the 5,000m race.

Kiplimo has been training with his management Rosa Associati, in Italy.

Closer to home, Kiplimo will aim to emulate his compatriot and running partner Joshua Cheptegei who set the 5,000m world record of 12min 35.36sec at the 2020 Monaco Diamond League meeting.

Ethiopia’s Aregawi, who posted 12min 50.05sec in Eugene, will be Kiplimo’s main contender for the podium.

Several top stars have confirmed their participation including Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon who will renew rivalry with Dutch star Sifan Hassan in the women’s 1500m.

The Monaco meeting will be a befitting precursor for the World Athletics Championships due in August, in Budapest, Hungary.
