The event will give young Ugandan runners an opportunity to compete, especially those who were unable to participate in the recent World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia due to visa restrictions.

Ten Ugandan athletes, including six men and four women, are set to compete in the upcoming Eastern Africa Athletics Championships in Dar-salaam, Tanzania from March 10-11.

The competition will feature two Ugandan runners in the Under-18 race and eight runners in the Under-20 race.

The event will give young Ugandan runners an opportunity to compete, especially those who were unable to participate in the recent World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia due to visa restrictions.

Among the runners who missed out on the Australian championships are Allan Kibet, Rotich Silas, and Feb Chelongoi.

Despite the challenges faced by the team, they remain determined to do well in the upcoming competition.

"Our coach has given us everything we need to do well in this tournament,” said Akello Priscila, one of the Ugandan runners.

“We have had enough time to train and I am confident that we will set up a strong competition," she added.

The team will be led by coach Justine Baiga, who has experience coaching the 400m short race. They are set to leave for Tanzania on Wednesday next week in preparation for the competition.

The Uganda Athletics Federation President, Dominic Otucet, expressed his confidence in the team's abilities.

"We have a strong team representing Uganda in this competition. We believe they will do well and showcase their talents on the international stage," he said.

The Eastern Africa Athletics Championships will feature athletes from countries such as Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia, among others.
