The challenge, which concluded on Sunday 26th, at the MTN Arena Lugogo, attracted top-ranked badminton players from Malaysia, Singapore and Canada.

Hosting over 49 countries and 100 players for a specific period in a limited environment is no mean feat, as was the case at the recently concluded Uganda Badminton Challenge.

The challenge, which concluded on Sunday 26th, at the MTN Arena Lugogo, attracted top-ranked badminton players from Malaysia, Singapore and Canada.

The Uganda Badminton Association CEO Simon Mugabi alludes that effective organization was vital.

"Overall, it was a good tournament on and off the court. We had many top-ranked players worldwide, and they made it worthwhile. We also executed well logistically," Mugabi said.

As much as it was Uganda hosting, the hosts' performance overall wasn't good, especially after most top seeds failed at the first hurdle, but Mugabi credits the players for the effort.

"It was a bit tough for Uganda, but I commend our players for the fight; I am sure they also learnt a lot. We shall prepare better next time."

State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, the chief guest, called for more training and human resource for the players to compete better.

"It was tough for our players, but I appreciate the effort. We also must invest in training and coaches."

"And I will engage the Uganda Badminton Association to understand what we should prioritize," Mugabi added.

Malaysia's Justin Hoh won the men's singles title, while compatriot Karupathevan Letshanaa won the Women's singles title.

The Men's doubles were claimed by Thailand's Pongsakorn Thongkham and Wongsathorn Thongkhar, while Trisha Hegde and Khushi Thakkar claimed the Women's singles.

The Mixed doubles were won by the Singaporean pair of Jun Liang, Andy Kwek and Wong Jia Ying Crystal.

UBA will now focus on the Junior competition, where 80 Ugandan players and seven foreign countries are expected to participate from February 27th to March 1st at the MTN Arena Lugogo.
