At Grayson, Letaru will team up with Uganda Gazelles forward Priscilla Abby, who recently played at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda.

KIU Rangers forward Diana Letaru has said goodbye to her teammates ahead of her imminent move to Grayson College in the United States.

The former U18 Gazelles forward used Tuesday’s training session to thank her fellow players, coaches and management at KIU for all the support.

“First of all, I thank God for being in this team,” Letaru said after the team’s session.

“I thank the president, the coaches, players. I loved this journey, it was a very great journey for me and hoping to represent the best way wherever I will be,” she added.

“I cannot forget you guys. You guys have been great teammates and encouraging, I just loved being in this team.

“Sometimes I get emotional, and I feel like crying because I can’t believe I am leaving you guys.

“I hope you guys make it to the finals because I have faith in you.”

Letaru was part of Uganda’s National Basketball U18 Girls team, the Junior Gazelles, that completed at Afrobasket U18 finals in Madagascar last year and has made her name as one of the top upcoming talents in the National Basketball League.

She averaged 15 points and eight rebounds in the first round and will be missed by the Kansanga-based outfit.

Rangers head coach Julius Lutwama admits the team will miss Letaru's services.

"We dearly wish to appreciate the outstanding efforts of her great input to get us here," Lutwama said.

"We can't explain how much we shall miss her but great to say that we are happy that we are losing her for better so we wish her well," he added.

The Rangers are fourth on the log with an 11-4 record and eyes of making this year's final.

At Grayson, Letaru will team up with Uganda Gazelles forward Priscilla Abby, who recently played at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Another Gazelle, forward Jane Asinde, is the other Ugandan to have gone through the Grayson College program, having joined the team from JKL Lady Dolphins in 2019.

Letaru’s transfer will increase the number of Uganda Gazelles players plying their trade in US Colleges.

Asinde, Lydia Babirye, Melissa Akullu and Abby are the other talents playing in different colleges.
