Uganda was the last team in Group C to arrive in Kigali. Mali jetted in on Monday, while Senegal arrived much earlier and had a friendly game against Mozambique.

The Uganda Gazelles have settled in at Onomo Hotel, Kigali, ahead of the FIBA Women's Afrobasket 2023 action that tips off Friday at the BK Arena.

Uganda will start off their campaign in a clash with Mali before facing Senegal the following day to conclude Group C action.

Upon arrival in Kigali, the team held its first training session at the LDK Court and head coach Alberto Antuna was left impressed with the progress he is seeing.

"We have completed our first session here in Kigali after a good trip that wasn't long," Antuna said.

"The girls had some time to rest after lunch, everyone is feeling good, everyone is ready to compete on Friday," he added.

"We are just reviewing some situations now, offensively and defensively. We'll keep working till game day on Friday."

The Gazelles were flagged off on Tuesday and left for Kigali, hoping to better their 2015 Afrobasket performance.

Having finished ninth in 2015, the team is now intent on breaking into the quarter-finals.

Their journey to the quarters will, however, have a lot to do with the performance they put up in the group phase of the competition.

The teams that top their groups after the groups games will automatically go to the quarters, while the other two have to qualify through a playoff game.
