Mahatlane's contract non-renewal, announced by UCA this week, has been a topic of discussion within the cricket community, with various speculations circulating.

As the tenure of Laurence Mahatlane, the head coach of the Cricket Cranes, draws to a close, the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has taken proactive steps to secure an interim coach for the national team.

Mahatlane's contract non-renewal, announced by UCA this week, has been a topic of discussion within the cricket community, with various speculations circulating.

UCA has officially named assistant coach Jackson Ogwang as the interim head coach for the Cricket Cranes, just in time for the World Cup qualifiers in Namibia.

Denis Musali, the UCA media manager, confirmed this development to Pulse Sports: "Jackson Ogwang has served as the assistant coach for the past six years.”

“Initially under Steve Tikolo and subsequently under Mahatlane. He deeply understands the team and its players.”

He added: "Working alongside Mahatlane over the last three years, they have diligently prepared the team for this critical moment.”

“Together with the senior players on the team, they should be well-equipped to accomplish the task at hand."

Following their recent participation in the East Africa T20 Cup in Kigali, Rwanda, the Cricket Cranes have resumed training at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, intensifying their preparations for the upcoming qualifiers.

Uganda is set to compete in the T20 World Cup qualifiers, scheduled between November 20th and December 2nd in Namibia.

The competition will feature Namibia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Nigeria teams.
