How a potential 12-point deduction for Juventus affects AC Milan, Inter and Roma

AC Milan, Inter, and Roma are waiting with great anticipation to capitalise on any negative ruling against Juventus today

With Juventus expected to receive a 12-point deduction from the Federal Court of Appeals in their capital gains case today, Serie A clubs are licking their lips at the prospect of upstaging the Old Lady, with Milan, Inter, and Roma set to be the biggest beneficiaries.

Juventus set to lose 12 points in new Court of Appeal ruling

Juventus had initially had a 15-point penalty from the original ruling on the case reversed in April and moved from a lowly seventh place into third on the table, eventually rising to second after a string of good results, but could see that progress wiped away if the rumours surrounding the new ruling are true.

The Bianconeri are expected to lose a crucial 12 points in a new verdict today, which will see them tumble down the Serie A ladder once again, despite the original request from FIGC prosecutors only requesting a nine-point penalty in their original submission.

If the Old Lady suffer a 12-point penalty as feared, the verdict could send them out of European contention for next season entirely, dropping them from 69 points in second place to 57 points in seventh.

AC Milan, Inter and Roma set to benefit from Juventus’ downfall

This situation will leave UEFA Champions League semifinalists AC Milan as the biggest beneficiaries.

Despite only two wins in their last five matches, Milan could find themselves back in the Serie A top four with two games to go in the 2022/23 campaign with 64 points, giving them a great chance of securing UCL football for next season.

This year’s Champions League finalists, Inter, will also rank third in Serie A, while Lazio will be reinstated as runners-up to title-holders Napoli.

Another notable beneficiary of the Juventus points deduction will be Roma, who will re-enter the European spots by moving to sixth place with 59 points and a game in hand over Juventus and the new fifth-placed Atalanta.

If the Gialorossi win their game in hand, they could also leapfrog Atalanta into fifth place, which will be good enough to qualify for the UEFA Europa group stages next season.
