Speaking before Friday’s opening match of the season, the centre back revealed that the record champions are more than prepared to go again in the hunt for a league title that has eluded Villa since 2004.

SC Villa captain Kenneth Semakula is upbeat ahead of the new Startimes Uganda Premier League season and has called upon the Jogoo faithful to back the team in the new campaign.

Speaking before Friday’s opening match of the season, the centre back revealed that the record champions are more than prepared to go again in the hunt for a league title that has eluded Villa since 2004.

“We have had a good preseason training preparing for the Uganda Premier League,” Semakula said after the team’s training session on Thursday.

“We are well prepared. The technical team has prepared us well, so we are looking out for a good season,” he added.

The Jogoos will start their campaign against newly promoted Kitara FC and, quite understandably, will be looking to be a step better than last season.

Sredojevic, a Serbian coach who was serving his second term as the Cranes coach, still had one year remaining on his contract, having signed a three-year deal in July 2021.

Having gone into last season’s final match day top of the log, Villa lost 1-0 to URA FC to hand the title to Vipers and leave the Jogoos fans dejected.

“We call upon our fans to come to Wankulukuku and support us.”

Semakula has been a mainstay in the Villa team and will have the honour of captaining arguably the biggest football club in the country.

Under new head coach Dusan Stojanovic, the Jogoos have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in players like Charles Lwanga, Hakim Kiwanuka, Gavin Kizito and Peter Onzima to bolster the team and will be looking to add to their tally of 16 league titles.
