Gabon have excluded star striker Aubameyang from World Cup qualifier squad.

Gabon national football team will proceed without its star player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Harambee Stars.

Despite being involved in the failed 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification, Coach Thierry Mouyouma has chosen to omit the Olympic Marseille forward from the 23-man squad.

Aubameyang, who began his international career in 2009 and has since scored 30 goals in 72 appearances, announced last May that he was retiring from international duty before being reinstated to the team through the intervention of the former Gabon president.

Word on the streets suggests that his relationship with the Gabonese Football Association has been marked by tension, which may have contributed to his exclusion from the squad.

Yet, the 33-year-old striker, undoubtedly the most illustrious footballer from Gabon, signaled his willingness to play for the Panthers in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Aubameyang's omission from the squad comes as a surprise given his prolific career and significant contribution to Gabonese football.

The forward's earlier international retirement and subsequent reversal had been a topic of intense speculation and debate among fans and commentators alike.

Gabon Football Federation has confirmed that the qualifier match against the Harambee Stars will take place at the Stade de la Rénovation in Franceville on November 16.

Details regarding the Kenyan team's camp, set to begin on November 13, are expected to be released by the Football Kenya Federation.

In Aubameyang's absence, the spotlight shifts to the selected squad, a blend of domestic and international talents, including goalkeepers such as Mbaba Loyce and Ngoubi Anse, and defenders like Appindangoye Aaron and Ecuele Manga.

The midfield sees the likes of Mario Lemina and Guelor Kanga, while the forward lineup features Babicka Shavi and Medwin Biteghe, among others.
