Lwanga cites the low level of competitiveness as the reason for opting not to stay in the Horn of Africa as he eyes a new challenge where he can push himself more.

“Yes, I am not going back to Arta Solar; I opted not to renew my contract because I felt I needed a more competitive environment which I didn’t have back in Djibouti,” Taddeo told Pulse Sports.

“My time there was great because I learnt a lot from some of the best players like Song and Kalou; they will always have my respect, and everyone at the club,” he added.

Next step

The Engineer, who is currently training with his former side, Vipers SC, to keep fit, has offers in Tanzania, where he previously featured for giants Simba and at home.

Still, he says it’s only a matter of time before he decides on his next club.

“I am weighing my options, here at home and elsewhere, but the target is to be in a more competitive environment.”

About the Djibouti League

The Djibouti Premier League has only nine clubs who all play their home and away games at the 20,000-seater El Hadj Hassan Gouled Aptidon national stadium. Djibouti Telecom has won the most titles (7).

Arta Solar finished third on the log with 30 points, a distant nine points from champions CF GR Saif who claimed the only CAF Champions League spot.

Lwanga, who last featured for the Uganda Cranes during the failed 2021 AFCON qualification campaign, joined Arta Solar in August 2022 and became a regular fixture in the team.
