Retired Uganda Cranes star Tonny Mawejje started off his transition to coaching duties perfectly as Kampala Queens defeated visiting Canadian eight-time Western Conference champions Trinity Western University 2-1.

The newly-appointed assistant coach was in charge of the side until they appoint a head coach, and his debut went according to plan in a friendly match on Thursday, June 29, at the IUIU playground in Kabojja.

Zainah Namuleme opened the scoring in the first half in the 26th minute before the visitors levelled matters moments into the break.

Zainah Nandede would find the winning goal in the 61st minute to restore Kampala Queens’ lead.

The performance sets the tone for Kampala Queens’ preparations for the CAF Women's Champions League Zonal Qualifiers. The Zonal Qualifiers (CECAFA) will be hosted in Uganda.

In a related development, Amus College School Girls Team will host the Canadian side in Mbale on Saturday.

TWU competes in Canada's Western Conference League champions, a league with a similar format to the United States Major League Soccer.

They are five-time national champions.
