Following the result, Kitara stayed second with 26 points, six off the table leaders BUL FC, who play Gadaffi FC on Wednesday.

It was a slow start to the year for Kitara Football Club after suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League on Tuesday.

Goals from Jeremy Matata and Emmanuel Ajo guided the 'Kyabazinga' boys to the all-important three points at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Meanwhile, Paul Mucureezi managed Kitara's consolation on an away evening that won't last long in their memory.

After a decent start for the visitors, having created a number of early chances, it's the hosts who broke the deadlock, with Matata striking from close range a delivery from Ajo in the 14th minute.

Busoga should have made it two in the 27th minute, but Matata's goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by Jasper Aheebwa.

Seven minutes past the hour-mark, Mucureezi levelled matters through a well-taken penalty after captain Isaac Isinde was penalized for a handball.

Four minutes later, Busoga added a quick second with Ajo sitting his defender down before striking in the top right corner past goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima.

Following the result, Kitara stayed second with 26 points, six off the table leaders BUL FC, who play Gadaffi FC on Wednesday.

They will host Soltilo Bright Stars FC on Friday in their final game of the first round.

On the other hand, Busoga moved 12th with 15 points, and they will visit Vipers SC in their next game on Sunday.
