RUGBY 7s Hippos, Kobs to clash in the group stages of Kyabazinga 7s

Stanbic Black Pirates will need at least a semifinal appearance at the Kyabazinga 7s to emerge champions of the 2023 Nile Special National Rugby Sevens.

Jinja Hippos and Kobs have been pooled together in Group D of the Kyabazinga 7s that will be held in Jinja.

The seventh and final leg of the Nile Special Nationsl Sevens will be hosted by Walukuba Barbarians from September 2nd to 3rd at the Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe.

The two teams failed to make it past the quarterfinals of the Mileke Border Sevens held at the Elgon View Ground in Tororo over the weekend.

Hippos lost to invitational side Tororo Crest while Kobs were bundled out by overall table leaders Pirates.

The hosts Walukuba stunned the top dogs to win their first-ever circuit in Tororo on Sunday.

They have been pooled alongside Impis, Rhinos and an invited side.

Table leaders Pirates lead group B that has Buffaloes and two unranked sides. The Pirates need to progress past the quarterfinals to be declared champions of this season.

Heathens, Mongers and Warriors will tussle in Pool C with one invitational side.

A total of five teams have been invited for the tournament.

Pool B – Pirates, Buffaloes, Invitational 1, Invitational 2

Pool C – Heathens, Mongers, Warriors, Invitational 3

Poo D – Hippos, KOBS, Rams, Invitational 5

WOMEN

Pool A - Black Pearls, Nile Rapids, Invitational 2

Pool B – Avengers, Thunderbirds, Invitational 1
