With the 17 points collected, Pirates moved to 61 points and continue to set the pace with four circuits still to play.

The Stanbic Black Pirates remained top of the Nile Special Sevens Series standings despite failing to clinch the Rujumba Sevens over the weekend.

Pirates were on course to a third-straight circuit win but were stopped by rivals Kobs in the semi-finals to settle for third place.

Having led 10-05 deep into stoppage time, the Sea Robbers slipped and were punished by Ian Munyani’s last-minute try that Joseph Aredo converted to send Kobs to the final with a 12-10 win.

Marvin Odongo’s charges would later defeat Plascon Mongers 24-14 in the third-place playoff game to take home 17 points.

Still up

Pirates are still top of the standings after three circuits, while Kobs finished second to close the gap between the two from eight to six points.

With the 17 points collected, Pirates moved to 61 points and continue to set the pace with four circuits still to play.

Kobs missed out on the opportunity to close the gap to four points after they lost 12-10 to Platinum Credit Heathens in the final.

The Blue Army got 19 points for finishing second and moved to 55 points while circuit winners Heathens are now on 54 points.

Defending champions, Jinja Hippos continued to blow hot and cold and fell to Plascon Mongers in the quarter-final and finished sixth after losing 17-10 to Toyota Buffaloes in the fifth-place playoff.

Buffaloes complete the top five with 39 points.

The next circuit will be held in Toro this coming weekend, and Pirates remains the team to beat after lifting the opening two events on the calendar.
