Super Eagles ace Victor Osimhen has taken advantage of the CAF Awards platform to clear the air on his relationship with Napoli.’
The 24-year-old was named the African Footballer of the Year tonight, becoming the first Nigerian to win the award in almost two-and-a-half decades, and in the press conference after the ceremony, he discussed his relationship with his club.
The perceived fractured relationship between Osimhen and Napoli
A few months ago, a viral video that originated from Napoli’s official Tiktok was the talk of the town, as the content made a mockery of Osimhen.
This angered the player and he seemingly removed all Napoli-related content from his Instagram account and was visibly unhappy during his next sighting in Napoli’s compounds.
The incident happened against the backdrop of contract negotiations between Napoli and Osimhen, and it reportedly hampered the talks.
The Lagos-born striker has yet to put pen to paper for a new contract with the Partenopei but has now stated that his relationship with the club is as strong as ever.
What Osimhen said
The striker stated in his press conference that he wanted to correct the notion that he had been mistreated by Napoli or its president, Aurelio de Laurentiis.
He went further, saying the video incident was a “stupid mistake by an individual,” suggesting it was an isolated event and that it had been sorted by the club.

“I wasn’t happy about it, but ADL, his son Eduardo and a lot of them stood with me and they made sure the individual was really dealt with, which for me is the most important thing.”
“I spoke with the person in charge of it and he was remorseful and then we sorted out everything and I am happy with them.”
