Flick deflects questions about Ter Stegen, confirms nine players will miss Asian tour
Barcelona are looking to offload goalkeeper Ter Stegen after telling him he is surplus to the team for next season.
However, the German international is not looking to leave the Spanish champions and wants to remain at the club.
Flick ignores Ter Stegen's questioning
As expected, the German coach was asked about the future of captain Marc-André ter Stegen, according to Mundo Deportivo, via Sportal.
Flick replied only that the club's financial situation is delicate, and therefore, the goalkeeper's situation depends on it. The coach also emphasised that he wanted to talk instead about newly acquired goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who is tipped to be the new starter in that position.
He stressed that the club has high hopes for the new signing and that his acquisition was the result of a unanimous decision by the sporting staff.
Furthermore, Flick admitted to the journalists that he would have to leave nine players behind for the team's upcoming Asian tour.
He currently has 35 players training under his supervision, excluding Ter Stegen, and intends to rely on only 26 of them for the upcoming friendlies against Vissel Kobe, FC Seoul, and Daegu FC in Japan and South Korea.
Most of the players who will remain in Barcelona are likely to be among the youth players Flick has called up to train with the first team.
