Messi considering European return as Cesc Fabregas’s Como enters race
Fresh reports suggest the Argentine icon, Lionel Messi, could return to European football, with Serie A newcomers Como 1907 emerging as a surprise destination.
Messi, currently with Inter Miami, has yet to extend his contract, which expires at the end of 2025.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Inter Miami remain “extremely confident” about tying Messi down to a new deal that would see him lead the team into their new Freedom Park stadium in 2026.
The 36-year-old World Cup winner is reportedly weighing all options, as he wants to stay in top condition for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
No Barça return but Europe beckons
A return to Barcelona has been ruled out, with club leadership reportedly reluctant to disrupt the progress of rising star Lamine Yamal.
According to Spanish sources, Barça have denied Messi a return, believing the time has come to close that chapter.
Still, Messi remains one of the most sought-after players in world football, with offers on the table from Saudi Arabia, Argentina, and now Europe.
Cesc Fabregas’ Como: A romantic option
In a twist no one saw coming, Messi has received a formal approach from Serie A side Como, coached by former teammate Cesc Fàbregas.
The club recently secured promotion to Italy’s top flight and is reportedly pursuing an ambitious project, with Messi at its centre.
“Cesc didn’t hesitate to contact his old friend. He’s building something big at Como and believes Messi could add both footballing brilliance and global attention,” the report says.
While Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli remain keen on landing the Argentine superstar, Messi is reportedly “not seduced” by the money on offer in the Middle East.
