Ola Aina set to play in Europa League as Nottingham Forest replace Crystal Palace
The reshuffle stems from Lyon's successful appeal against their relegation to Ligue 2, securing their place in Ligue 1 and, consequently, in European competition.
Forest, who qualified for the UEFA Conference League with a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, move up a tier, swapping places with the Eagles, who now drop into the third-tier European competition.
Forest replace Palace in Europa
Crystal Palace, last season's FA Cup winners, are out of the UEFA Europa League, replaced by Nottingham Forest, managed by Nuno EspÃrito Santo.
The decision was made Friday at the inaugural UEFA Financial Control Summit, as reported by Abola.
The issue arose because John Textor held shares in both Lyon and Crystal Palace. Under UEFA's multi-club ownership rules, clubs with the same owner cannot compete in the same competition.
Although Textor sold his 43% stake in the English club to Woody Johnson, owner of the New York Jets, and resigned from his leadership position at Lyon after the UEFA's March 1st deadline, the changes were deemed too late.
Crystal Palace plan to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, arguing that Textor never held more than 50% of the club's shares.
