Revealed: Where Super Eagles will face Libya in crucial AFCON 2025 qualifier

The Libyan Football Federation has announced that the Martyrs of Benina Stadium will host the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Nigeria.

The decision comes as Libya, currently at the bottom of Group D, prepares to face the group leaders in a crucial Matchday 4 encounter.

The Martyrs of Benina Stadium, located approximately 19 kilometres outside Benghazi, Libya's second-largest city, is a 10,000-capacity facility featuring an artificial turf.

Formerly known as Hugo Chávez Stadium, it will serve as the battleground for what promises to be a pivotal match in the qualifying campaign.

The fixture is scheduled for Tuesday, 15th October, with kick-off set for 8:00 PM Nigeria time. This follows the Matchday 3 clash between the two nations, which will take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, on Friday, 11th October at 5:00 PM local time.

Libya's choice of venue comes after a challenging start to their qualifying campaign. The team currently sits at the bottom of Group D with just one point from two matches.

Their campaign opened with a 1-1 draw against Rwanda at the Tripoli International Stadium, followed by a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in a match played in Abidjan.

In contrast, Nigeria tops the group with four points, having started strongly with a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo on Matchday 1.

The Super Eagles then secured a point with a goalless draw against Rwanda's Amavubi in Kigali on Matchday 2.

The upcoming double-header between Libya and Nigeria could prove crucial in shaping the group's outcome. Nigeria will be looking to consolidate their position at the top, while Libya desperately needs points to keep their qualification hopes alive.
