Tough Women AFCON draw pits Super Falcons against North African giants and Botswana
Nigeria's Super Falcons will face a challenging group in the upcoming 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco from July 5 to July 26, 2025.
In the draw held on Friday evening at the Technical Centre of the Mohamed VI Football Complex in Sale, the Falcons were placed in Group B, alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.

Group Overview
Tunisia: The North African nation reached the quarter-finals in the last edition of WAFCON, held in Morocco, showcasing their competitive edge.
Algeria: The Super Falcons will be eager to continue their recent success against Algeria’s Green Ladies, having secured convincing victories in two friendly matches last month, winning 2-0 and 4-1.
Botswana: The Botswana national team made headlines by eliminating Gabon during the qualifying rounds, indicating they could be a formidable opponent.
This edition of WAFCON marks the 15th iteration of the tournament, which has seen Nigeria participate in every edition since its inception in 1998.
Historically, Nigeria has dominated women’s football on the continent, having won the tournament nine times.
However, they finished fourth in the last edition after losing to Zambia in the bronze medal match.
Other Groups
In Group A, host nation Morocco will compete against Zambia, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Meanwhile, defending champions South Africa are placed in Group C alongside Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania.
