Having started the tournament by making easy prey of Lesotho on Thursday, Uganda got off to a flying start against Morocco and took the first set 25-15 to set the pace of the game.

Uganda Volleyball Lady Cranes have registered their second win at the ongoing CAVB Women’s African Nations Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The Lady Cranes defeated Morocco 3-2 in a cracking game played Thursday evening in the Cameroonian capital to make it two wins in as many games.

Having started the tournament by making easy prey of Lesotho on Thursday, Uganda got off to a flying start against Morocco and took the first set 25-15 to set the pace of the game.

The North Africans, however, regrouped to clinch the second and third sets 28-26 and 25-17 to lead and leave the Lady Cranes on the brink of defeat.

Tonny Lakony’s charges got back in rhythm to take the fourth set 25-16 and force a decisive.

In the decisive set, it was the East African side that started on the front foot, leading 8-3 at the switch of sides before stepping off the pedal to give Morocco hope.

The stakes were high when Morocco came back to within one point (11-10) down the stretch, but it was Uganda that had the nerves to edge the fifth set 15-11 to win the game 3-2 and celebrate yet another victory at the championship.

Uganda will have no time to prolong celebrations, with arguably their most challenging game of the tournament coming up on Friday.

The Lady Cranes will face nine-time African champions and neighbours Kenya on Friday in an East Africa derby that has been one-sided for a while.
