In total, the Ugandan athletes collected $162,000 (UGX. 598,666,950).

The World Athletics Championships climaxed Sunday night in Budapest, Hungary, with Femke Bol producing an astonishing final leg to snatch gold for the Netherlands in a thrilling women’s 4x400 metres relay.

Peruth Chemutai was Uganda’s last athlete in action and went on finish seventh in the 3000m steeplechase race.

But it was Victor Kiplangat who registered Uganda’s second medal at the games, crossing the finish line in two hours, eight minutes and 53 seconds.

The 23-year-old gallantly protected his lead to win Uganda’s second-ever world marathon title, exactly 10 years after compatriot Stephen Kiprotich won the title in Moscow in 2013.

With every victory and position up to eighth came a cash prize for the athletes at the games, and Uganda had five runners in the money brackets.

Kiplangat then completed the medal count for Uganda on Sunday.

With the gold medal, each of the two athletes earned himself $70,000 (UGX. 258,683,250).
