Uganda's Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai finished a distant eleventh on Friday's women's steeplechase, Diamond League in Qatar, Doha.

Chemutai posted 9:31.71 as Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Mutile Yavi clocked a world-leading time of 9:04.38 to win the race.

Chemutai's struggle for consistency and form continued as she could not keep up with the leading pack in the race's latter stages.

Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Mutile Yavi clocked a world-leading time of 9:04.38 to win the women’s steeplechase.

She beat Ethiopian teenager Sembo Almayew in a courageous battle.

Almayew ran a Personal Best of 9:05.83 as she settled for second place, while Kenya's Faith Cherotich posted 9:06.43 in third place.

The event had its fair share of drama as USA's Emma Coburn suffered a nasty fall just two minutes into the race.

She finished in tenth position ahead of Chemutai as she posted 9:29.41, while Val Constien suffered a fall but did not finish.

Younger athletes gave the seniors a run for their money in a star-studded race that featured record-holder Beatrice Chepkoech and world bronze medallist Mekides Abebe.

Also competing were Commonwealth champion Jackline Chepkoech, Bahrain's Winfred Yavi, and 2017 world champion Emma Coburn of the USA, among other elite athletes.
