After helping the Lady Canons win last season’s championship by defeating JKL Lady Dolphins 4-3 in the finals, Akon moved to Morocco to further her career.

Former UCU Lady Canons power forward Rose Akon has joined Rwandan side APR ahead of the BetPawa Playoffs.

Akon, who is the reigning MVP of the Ugandan league, was announced as a new signing for the club through their social media handles.

“Welcome to our family Akon Rose,” APR confirmed on their Instagram and added pictures of the South Sundanese player in training.

“The power forward and one of the current champions in Majd Tanja Women Basketball (Morocco) joins APR Women Basketball for the upcoming #betpawaplayoffs happening from next Wednesday.”

After helping the Lady Canons win last season’s championship by defeating JKL Lady Dolphins 4-3 in the finals, Akon moved to Morocco to further her career.

She now returns to Rwanda for the second time, having featured for UBUMWE (now REG) when basketball was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

APR finished top of the eight-team log in the regular season and will be looking to take their form into the playoffs.

They will face The Hoops in the semi-final series that start on Wednesday.

REG, who finished second with an identical 13-1 record, will be APR’s biggest challengers for the title, and Akon’s recruitment could swing the fortunes into the army side’s favour.
