The Ugandan Cricket fraternity continues to hold its breath regarding the future of Cricket Cranes head coach Laurence Mahatlane.

The former South Africa U-19 cricket national team head coach, whose contract is set to expire in October, has been a subject of discussion.

Many wonder why the Uganda Cricket Association has stalled over renewing the coach's contract.

Mahatlane, however, needs to be more informed about the uncertainty of his future with focus on the upcoming East Africa Cup in Kigali and the preparations ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

"There's always speculation," Mahatlane told Pulse Sports on Thursday before adding.

"From my side, I have a good management team that handles my daily affairs, and I am sure they are on top of it (contract situation); for me, it's about coming out here and doing my job."

"Ultimately, I ensure I stay as professional I help the players prepare for the East Africa Cup in Kigali because I still have a running contract," Mahatlane added."

Mahatlane took over the Cricket Cranes head coach role in October 2020, going on to, among others, win the Africa T20 Cup, winning about 80% of the matches he tutored in both the T-20 and 50 over formats.

The debate about his future has overshadowed the team's preparations for the upcoming ICC Twenty 20 regional World Cup qualifiers come November 2023, with many wondering who will be in charge of the group then.
