The International Cricket Council has awarded Uganda the T20 Women's Qualifiers hosting rights.

The revelation was made through a communique released by the Uganda Cricket Association on Monday in which they expressed their readiness to host the competition, which will run from December 7th – 18th.

"We are excited to host the T20 Women's qualifiers," noted Joshua Mwanja, the Operations Manager Uganda Cricket Association.

"This shows the ICC's faith in our capacity to host an event of this magnitude. So for us, work starts immediately to prepare the grounds," he added.

The tournament will see the hosts and six other teams in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, and Namibia.

They will be joined by Div II qualifiers set to be determined in October in Botswana to battle for two slots to qualify for the global qualifiers to represent Africa.

Uganda has successfully hosted several high-profile ICC-sanctioned cricket tournaments, the most recent being the Challenge League B Cricket League in 2022 and the Victoria Series in 2023.

Mwanja adds that they will create an excellent cricket experience for the fans.

"We did well when we hosted the challenge league B last year; we are going to do better and give the cricket fans a great experience."

The games are scheduled to take place at the Lugogo and Entebbe cricket ovals.

In 2017, the Victoria Pearls won the Africa regional qualifiers in Namibia, which earned them a ticket to the global qualifiers, where they represented Africa in the Netherlands but finished 5th out of eight teams.
