Paris Saint-Germain were made to rue missed chances after hitting the woodwork four times as Borussia Dortmund sealed a place in another Wembley final

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund set up a possible repeat of the 2013 UEFA Champions League final at Wembley after pulling off a stunning upset to defeat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 on the night and 2-0 on aggregate to secure their place in another Wembley showpiece more than a decade after their last appearance.

A towering header from Mats Hummels was enough to give Dortmund an unlikely win over PSG at the Parc des Princes as the hosts were made to rue several missed chances to equalise.

How it happened

Both teams had their chances in the early stages of the match, with Karim Adeyemi and Goncalo Ramos testing the defences of their opponents. Defender Julian Ryerson came close to breaking the deadlock with a powerful volley that found the side netting midway through the first half, as both teams teased a goal.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was also forced into a crucial save to deny Adeyemi on the counterattack. Just before halftime, PSG were denied yet again as Fabian Ruiz’ long-range effort was deflected wide by Nico Schlotterbeck, leaving the scoreline at 0-0 going into halftime.

PSG's fortunes did not improve after the break as Warren Zaïre-Emery's effort hit the post after Ramos missed a clear chance to put the hosts ahead. Dortmund took advantage of PSG's missed chances, with Hummels heading in Julian Brant's corner to give them a 1-0 lead on the night and double their advantage in the tie.

Despite PSG's relentless efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net, hitting the woodwork four times during the match and a total of six times during the two legs of the tie. Nuno Mendes, Kylian Mbappe, and Vitinha joined Zaire-Emery in being denied by the woodwork as Dortmund's defence held firm to secure a historic victory and a place in the Champions League final.
