Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu starred in Reims' defense, thwarting Nice's attacks to secure his team's unbeaten streak in a crucial Ligue 1 match.

Kenya international Joseph Okumu was a key figure in Stade de Reims' robust defense playing a crucial role in securing a goalless draw against OG Nice in a fiercely contested French Ligue 1 match on Sunday, April 7 at Stade Auguste-Delaune II.

The center-back's performance was pivotal helping his team extend their unbeaten streak to four games and showcasing his vital contribution to the squad's resilience.

The match characterized by intense midfield battles and strategic plays saw Okumu clock 83 impressive minutes on the pitch.

His defensive prowess was particularly highlighted in the 55th minute when he made a critical interception on the right wing, thwarting Khéphren Thuram's potential goal-scoring opportunity for Nice.

Belgium international Thomas Foket replaced Okumu in the closing stages of the game, following an injury concern for the Kenyan defender.

Despite this setback, Okumu's impact was already indelibly marked on the match contributing significantly to his team's defensive solidity.

Several publications recognized Okumu's outstanding display against Nice, naming him the man of the match.

His statistical contributions were remarkable, with four clearances, one blocked shot, two tackles, and winning eight out of 13 duels.

Despite being cautioned towards the end of the first half, Okumu's disciplined and tenacious defending throughout the match was a key factor in Reims' performance.

Okumu's exceptional performance comes on the heels of his inclusion in the French Ligue 1 Team of the Week.

His notable achievements included scoring a maiden goal for the club in a previous match against Lyon on April 30, joining Dennis Oliech as the second Kenyan to score in the French top flight.

The draw against Reims propelled the team to seventh place in the league standings, ahead of a nearly 15-day break due to the postponement of their match against Marseille.

Reims is set to face Strasbourg on April 13 in their next league fixture aiming to continue their positive momentum.
