Since the league resumed after the international break, KCCA has only picked up two points in 1-all draws with Maroons at home and Blacks Power away.

KCCA FC’s return to the top of the Startimes Uganda Premier League will require the team to improve and have a good run of form.

Morley Byekwaso’s troops go into their Easter Sunday clash with UPDF aware of the gap between them and current log leaders SC Villa.

Villa came from behind to defeat Wakiso Giants 3-1 to move to 43 points and stretch the lead at the top to six points.

And whereas the record champions have played three more games than the Kasasiro Boys, they are in top form and can now be considered serious title challengers.

Since the league resumed after the international break, KCCA has only picked up two points in 1-all draws with Maroons at home and Blacks Power away.

“The month we spent without having games really affected our results, but now we are progressing. We are seeing something good coming,” Byekwaso said ahead of the game.

“It is a game we need to win but also play well,” he added.

The Lugogo-based side enjoyed life at the top of the log for the larger parts of the first round and the early stages of the second round.

But results like the last two draws are not helping the cause as the team strives to quench its trophy thirst with some silverware this season.

Denis Iguma’s header on Wednesday ensured KCCA left Lira with a point after going a goal down early in the match.

Against Maroons, Rogers Mato had to cancel out Fred Amaku’s strike to earn the 13-time champions a point at home.

Changes were made to the attacking line on Wednesday, with both Tshisungu Kankonde and Muhammad Shaban starting on the bench as Mato led the line.

Byekwaso is upbeat ahead of the UPDF clash and said, “We are going to do our best to see that we win the game.”

The match will mark the start of a new experience for fans at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

It will be the team’s first match under floodlights after getting clearance from FUFA early this week.

All the scrutiny might be on KCCA, but their opponents badly need the points in their fight to maintain league status at the end of the season.

The army side lies 12th on the 15-team log, with 21 points from 20 games, only five points above 14th-placed Blacks Power.

Brian Ssenyondo’s side comes into the game on the back of three consecutive wins, identical 1-0 score lines against Bright Stars and Wakiso Giants, and a 3-1 victory over Arua Hill.
